Moving & Handling

The risk of pain and injury has a direct relation from the overuse of poor posture from poor moving and handling, which in turn can cause loss of strength and reduce musculoskeletal function. This can be changed through carers adopting safe biomechanical body movements during clients handling tasks.

Through Safe Client Handling programs our in-house Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist is working to establish a safe environment for carers, with the complete elimination of manual patient handling as our goal.

While there are situations where manual lifting is unavoidable, it is crucial to take all possible precautions to minimise the risk of injury and be aware of moving and handling best practices. By adhering to these top tips and incorporating best practices, carers can ensure the safety of both themselves and their clients during the moving and handling process. Prioritising safety aligns with legal obligations and promotes a culture of care and well-being in homecare settings.

Through our in-house Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist Risk Moving & Handling Assessment the use of Moving & Handling equipment and devices is beneficial not only for carers, but also for our clients. Explaining planned lifting procedures to clients prior to lifting and enlisting their cooperation and engagement can increase their safety and comfort, and enhance their sense of dignity.
